An inspiring work, which is so relevant in term of addressing sexism and love in our current situation. A boost for every South African’s soul. I personally would love to experience this Alice Walker classic ““I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don’t notice it.” so I paraphrase you might be pissing God off if you didn’t notice The Colour Purple!

I would love to see the musical because of the impact the movie had In my life. Seeing it live would be more of a revival for me. It would bring more inspiration. Lately masculinity is enforced and this movie is prove enough that feminism is necessary and that females also have the power to change the world.

I also like the fact that the movie educates men to see the hardships women have to go through especially because most men are quite ignorant of the fact that rape exists, that it’s a nightmare and that it happens right before our eyes, their eyes.

So I would love to see the musical because of the power, love, healing and lesson it brings.

Andrew McDougall January 13, 2018 at 8:41 am

South Africa has such a chequered history and the country has moved on and is doing a wonderful job of showing the rest of the world how a nation can live and love. This sentiment is echoed in The Colour Purple and this show proves that SA is not alone in social issues that have contaminated all walks of life. I am enthralled that South African artists have embraced this project and hope to see them show the audience, even the world, how they can colour the stage purple.

Cheryl January 13, 2018 at 9:04 am

Purple is my colour.

Chuma January 13, 2018 at 10:12 am

The color purple helped me. As a black girl who never had much confidence, it pointed out the other side to me. The side of black excellence and black beauty the side where black girls look every bit as graceful and elegant as royalty. The color purple is s literary masterpiece and I would love to be able to witness the real live version of its absolute greatness

Khensani Wilson January 13, 2018 at 6:57 pm

I absolutely love the color purple, watched the movie and had the privilege to meet Cynthia who was the lead in the original broadway Musical and the way she expressed the love a surrealness of the play really made me want to experience that but from the audience perspective and also to see what the All South African cast had to offer, with so many familiar faces starring in the musical, I honestly have no doubt this production will be AMAZING. It’s so great when South Africans challenge themselves to do such big productions and nail it to the parr. And of course the music, and the pain you hear when the songs are being sung, and to see real life experiences being put on stage is just everything. Art is life.

Heather Hook February 4, 2018 at 9:19 am

Congrats Khensani – I have sent you an email!

Johan January 13, 2018 at 7:16 pm

Sekgopedi January 13, 2018 at 10:27 pm

Besides it being one of my favourite musical… It would be great to see how it will be potrayed in South Africa. From the cast to the crew. How well it will be executed. How our industry’s triple threats will bring about all those characters onstage. I would be honoured to witness history being made on the joburg theatre stage.

Sihle khumalo January 14, 2018 at 2:52 pm

I’ve always been obsessed with musical drama, how they get to express their emotions and feelings through dance and song. It would be a great thrill to experience such joy in theatre for the 1st time.

Robyn Solovei January 15, 2018 at 10:20 am

I would love to see the show live as seen the movie and love going to the theatre and would be an awesome birthday present for my mom. ?

Tebogo Gxubane January 15, 2018 at 10:17 pm

After watching the movie, I realised it does not only take a female to understand the impact of love and all the bag of emotions attached to it on The Colour Purple script. I went to Youtube to watch Cynthia Arivo septure the role of Celee and learnt all the music score, each track has a day and place in my life but “I am Here” keeps me going on a daily basis.

So seeing the entire ensemble on stage, and all scenes put together live would just complete the illusion i’ve inherited from the play, on a daily basis. This show feeds me life, its relatable & it’s a voice to all the voiceless under every roof.

“Got my hands doing good like they’re suppose to showing my heart to the folks that I am close to”…

Heather Hook February 4, 2018 at 9:15 am

Congrats Tebogo! I have sent you an email!
