I have discovered a rather cool artisanal liquor store called Proof, located at Park Corner, Corner Bolton Road and Jan Smuts.
Just recently opened and totally moving away from mainstream bottle store concept, Proof is not about being told what tastes good and what doesn’t. Their signified spirits are individually sourced and they aim to bring you the most bespoke of brands.
Owned by friends, Dyllan and Travis, the concept is simple – top quality brands, individually sourced from around the world. Be it whisky or gin, the shelves are stocked with the top brands.
Why Proof? Well we all know that the proof is in that first sip, but the word ‘proof’ dates back to 16th century England, where alcoholic beverages were taxed depending on their alcohol content, and were tested by soaking a pellet of gunpowder in the drink, if the powder could burn, the drink was rated above proof and taxed a higher amount.
Proof also owns a rather cool craft beer pump – where you can bring along your own receptacle and select from a variety of craft beers that they will pump in for you, pop a lid on and off you go to your party. Or if you are hosting friends, the team will bring a keg and a pump and get everything set up for you, so that you can have your own craft beer on tap – cool right?
